Spring Break in the Electric Swamp

Projection on The Orb at the Betsy Hotel, Miami, 2026

Featuring Alone in the Electric Swamp, a soundscape by Cristy Michel shehersir

Spring Break in the Electric Swamp imagines the swamp in a parallel dimension, a space where the wetlands seep past their boundaries, merging with the shoreline. In Miami, where the built environment meets water and heat, that boundary feels especially porous. The work follows this slippage, creating a space where organic forms become synthetic, and landscape flickers into signal.

Using layered video and digital distortion, I treat the image as both environment and interface. The “electric swamp” is where technology and ecology merge, overlap, and destabilize one another. What appears lush and familiar begins to pulse, repeat, and glitch.
